Number 6 Union Street dates to about 1740 and carries the name of Captain John Hulbert, the Sag Harbor officer who raised a militia company there in 1775. By the time we took it on in 2017 it had stood empty for years — a chimney near collapse, and the village building inspector on record doubting the frame could carry its own weight.
We lifted the house off the ground, poured a new foundation beneath it, and set it back down. An elevator went in. More than a hundred corbels were catalogued and some thirty recreated from scratch. Finished November 2018.
